l.a. candy March 9, 2010 i havn"t read the book yet but i am going to ask my dad to get it i am posotive he will say yes.
since i read the review it is the most best book i think i will read in my 8 year old life.peace out people!
Amazing! March 7, 2010 Leslie Smith (St. Louis, MO USA) Being a teenager I was interested to read this book but not totally interested. So, I ended up buying it anyway, but I couldn't put it down! It was that good. Sure there were parts that were really slow, and language it was still a great book. I've never been a fan of Lauren Conrad but I am now! I don't watch The Hills or Laguna Beach, so I don't get interaction with her. But I do like her as a writer. I did know that she was on The Hills and had appeared on Laguna Beach so I didn't know what her books would be like. I like that an actual actress has written a book (with more to come) and we don't get fake images of Hollywood these are more real. So if you like teen fiction definetly pick this up. It's a good spring break read!!
not full with this Candy March 5, 2010 Melissa De Jesus Martinez (Caguas, PR USA) Well I had this on my wishlist, so I was walking by in a Target store and I saw the book with 20% off so I bought it. Definitely, I thought about going back to the store to return it. At one point I was reading and I was like "What am I doing reading this crap?" It's really really boring. I'm going to finish it only cuz I bought and now that I'm back in Puerto Rico I can't return it cuz there's no Target here. But let me tell you, the book is written in a very simple prose, veeeeeeeeeery simple; it's like reading a MTV script or something like that...I wanted to support her, cuz for me, she's the best of all those "wanna-be-real-star-reality-tv-star"...but please Lauren next time Come off with something better. I hope the second book is better.
For fans of reality tv and fluffy, fun, escapist novels March 4, 2010 Carrie LaGree (Albany, NY) Given my fascination with Lauren Conrad, I was excited to read her loosely autobiographical first novel, L.A. Candy. The novel started off rather slowly for me, but once Jane, our heroine, and her feisty best friend, Scarlett, were picked to be on a new reality tv show, the story picked up. It was fun to guess which characters and traits were based on real people, but it seemed most characters were combinations of reality and imagination. The behind the scenes look at how reality works was absolutely fascinating. I watched The Hills become clearly less real over the seasons, but it was still enjoyable to watch. It was fascinating to see these characters react to the sudden change in their lives.
L.A. Candy is not a great work of literature, but it was a delightfully fun read. It's the first in the series, and I'm looking forward to reading Sweet Little Lies, the second installment, soon. I recommend it to fans of young adult novels and fans of The Hills.
Quick and Easy Read February 18, 2010 Isabel M.C. This book is about a girl named Jane who moves to L.A. with her best friend Scarlett. When I picked it up in the bookstore and read the summary on the library website, I expected it to be light and fluffy, not a book with a real heavy morale. When I read it I found that my prediction was correct, but I really liked it anyway. Some people would think of this book as a guilty-pleasure, and I have to admit I agree. I really liked how realistic the author made it, how it felt like I was watching behind-the-scenes of the reality show that the girls got persuaded into being on. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good and quick book just to read for fun, preferably at the beach or by the pool, just to relax and have a good way to spend some time. Although I do thinkt that this book is shallow and to some people might not be worth the time, I am excited to read the sequel.
