Product Description Nine world championships. Twenty-three NBA Finals appearances, including eight during the 1980s alone. Twenty Hall of Famers, among them some of the greatest players and coaches in basketball history. And more highs, lows, egomaniacs, scandals, arrests, eccentrics, oddballs, backstabbers, dysfunctional relationships, personal feuds, and overindulged superstars than any average team could ever be expected to handle. Welcome to Madmen's Ball.

Best Laker Book Ever Written. December 14, 2008 First, I am a die hard Laker fan, and I've read a lot of Laker books. Yet this one is by far the best one. It has so many inside stories, and most of which are very funny too. Mark Heisler is a really good writer.
A must read to true Laker fan.
A fun read but nothing special. November 27, 2008 Mark Heisler is with out a doubt one of the most talented sports writers in all of print media. He is one of the reasons I continue to subscribe to L.A. Times year after year. If you are a Lakers fan this is a fun read. The older stuff about the West, Baylor days was informative to me being that it happened before I was born. The Showtime era chapters were a fun jog down memory lane. As for the Kobe, Phil and Shaq saga, I was disappointed. Any one, who followed the saga of the last few years, won't really learn anything new. The read is the same as what has been played up in print and nightly on ESPN. The only real revelation was that Kobe and the guys use the F word a lot. I bought the book hoping for something more. I will continue to read Mr. Heislers work as long as he sticks to columns and stays away from books.
